ကျောင်းသားတွေ မှားတတ်ကြတဲဲ့ few နဲ့ a few
ကလေးတန်းကတည်းက အင်္ဂလိပ်စာမှာ သင်ခဲ့ရတာပဲ။ few အနည်းငယ်၊ နည်းသော။ ဒါတော့သိတာပေါ့။ သို့သော် လူကြီးတန်းတွေမှာတောင် few နဲ့ a few, little နဲ့ a little အသုံးကွာပုံ Grammar test စစ်ချလိုက်ရင် အမှားတွေအများကြီးတွေ့နေရတာပါပဲ။ သာမန်ကာလျှံကာ မှတ်တတ်ကြလို့၊ မသုံးတာကြာတော့လည်း ပြန်မေ့သွားတတ်ကြတဲ့ Grammar အသေးအဖွဲလေးတွေပေါ့လေ။ ဒီ post မှာ few နဲ့ a few ကို ခွဲပြချင်တာထက် “few = အနည်းငယ်” လို့သာသိတဲ့ ကျောင်းသားတွေကို ဒီစကားလုံးလေးဟာ ဘယ်လိုမျက်စိလည်စေနိုင်သလဲဆိုတာကို အဓိကပြောပြချင်တာပါ။

uncountable noun ဖြစ်တဲ့ milk နွားနို့နည်းနည်းထပ်ထည့်ဖို့မေးရင် a few more milk မသုံးဘဲ a little more milk လို့သုံးရပါတယ်။

1. Quite a few
quite a few ဆိုတာ နည်းတာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။ များတာ
“quite a few" = quite a large number
I know quite a few people who have had the same problem.
ဒီလိုပြဿနာကြုံရတဲ့ သူတွေတော်တော်လေးများပါတယ်။
Lots of people at the club are under 20, but there are quite a few who aren't.
Club လာတဲ့သူတွေဟာ အသက် ၂၀ အောက်တွေဆိုပေမယ့် ၂၀ အထက်တွေလည်း အများကြီးပါ။
2. No fewer than
ဒါကိုလည်း အနည်းငယ်သောလို့ တချို့က ထင်နေတတ်ကြတယ်။ သူ့ရဲ့အဓိပ္ပါယ်က “အံ့သြစရာကောင်းလောက်အောင်များသော”ပါ။
no fewer than = used to show that you consider a number to be surprisingly large
No fewer than five hundred delegates attended the conference.
ညီလာခံကို ကိုယ်စားလှယ် ၅၀၀ တောင် တက်ရောက်ခဲ့တယ်။ (၅၀၀ ဆိုပဲ၊ များလို့ အံ့သြတဲ့ပုံ)
3. have a few (too many)
ဒါကတော့ Speaking မှာ အသုံးများတာလေး။ “နည်းနည်းလေး များသွားလို့ပါ” ဆိုတာမျိုး။ “နည်း”တယ်လို့ပြောပြီး “များ”သွားတယ်တဲ့။ အဓိပ္ပါယ်က အရက်သောက်တာ များသွားတာ၊ တော်တော်သောက်ထားတာပါ။ တော်တော်လေး ကောင်းနေပြီ၊ ထွေနေပြီ စသည်ဖြင့် အရက်သမားတွေပြောကြသလိုပေါ့။
To have a few (too many) = to drink quite a large number of, or too many, alcoholic drinks
By the look of him, he’d had a few even before he arrived at the party.
