Mounties in Coquitlam are urging people to be aware of fake gold and jewelry scams.
Coquitlam RCMP are investigating recent fraud reports, including incidents where the suspects approach the victim in a parking lot and ask them for money.
When the victim said no, the suspects offered to sell gold jewelry in exchange for money, according to the RCMP.

“The suspects in these scams can be very persuasive, and often use stories to play on the victim’s compassion,” said RCMP spokesperson Corp. Alexa Hodgins.
In one incidence, the victim provided the suspects with $200 in exchange for jewelry that was later to be determined as fake, said Hodgins.
Police ask anyone who suspects fraudulent activity to call the authorities.
